Solid Rock Brief History

Solid Rock was born on April 19, 2009, as a result of the formal merging of Kirkman Road and Ebenezer United Methodist Churches, Orlando.  However, there are over 215 years between the two congregations with Ebenezer being the oldest at about 151 years.  We have also received a substantial number of members from Grace United Methodist Church, which closed on December 2009, having been sold to the School District to accommodate the expansion of the Evans High School.  We are now into our fourth year under the new name "Solid Rock United Methodist Church."  While we have experienced cultural changes our focus has become one in ministry and the advancement of the church and the kingdom of God.

WHO ARE WE?

We are a diverse congregation that believes in the celebration of human differences. We believe in the existence of God as Creator, Redeemer through Jesus Christ, and the Source of our Sanctification through the continuously transforming work of the Holy Spirit who executes His work of grace to and through all who believe. We believe that Jesus Christ is our only means to salvation. We believe that in as much as God radically loves all people, we, as a church, should be intentional about reaching all of humanity with the message of redeeming grace. Our congregation is one in which differences are celebrated and honored and where human dignity and worth are mutually elevated above human prejudices. As a diverse community of believers created by God, we are driven by the common goals and values of faith, love, justice, devotion to God, service to our fellow humans, and the spirit of humility.

Our Vision Is:

To become a center for revitalized worship and biblical clarity where God is glorified and Christ is preached as we witness      the ministry of the Holy Spirit in our lives and church

To become a spiritually aware and healthy faith community

To become culturally relevant and diverse church that embraces all people without compromising our Christian convictions

To become a church that thinks and acts externally

Our Mission Is:

To make disciples for Christ

To cultivate a healthy worship environment

To be a prophetic voice that draws people’s attention to the presence and glory of God

To help people discover their purpose in living out the divine life

To advance the cause of righteousness in the world beginning with our community, by displaying Christian lifestyle,      spreading scriptural holiness, healing relationships, feeding the hungry and transforming problems into possibilities

To develop and nurture our commitment to connectional awareness

VISION/MISSION STATEMENTS FOR CHILDREN MINISTRY:

To create and develop a learning environment where God rules and our children rock

To offer our children Christian choices

To connect our children with God, with Christ and with the working power of the Holy Spirit

To partner with parents in building godly families and discipline for their children

To help our children reach broken, forgotten, neglected, and abused children in our community.
